Staff Bios

Sharon Evans
4th Grade GENERAL MUSIC & 5th Grade CHOIR      shevans@capousd.org

Mrs. Sharon Evans hails from Connecticut, has been teaching music since 1983 and has been with CUSD since 2015.  Mrs. Evans received a Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ and completed her CA Clear Credential at CSU San Marcos.  She is Level II certified in Orff-Schulwerk. Her principal instrument is voice although she also plays the piano, trumpet, djembe and guitar.  Over the years she has taught K-12 vocal and general music in both public and private schools in Massachusetts and California.  Mrs. Evans also has been ringing and directing handbell groups for over 30 years and enjoys drumming, reading and walking by the beach.  She is married with 2 grown children.

Mr. William Chance

4th Grade STRINGS & 5th Grade BAND          wdchance@capousd.org

Mr. William Chance is a recent graduate of California State University Fullerton where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Credential in Music Education. Mr. Chance student taught band at South Pointe Middle School, grades 6-8, and the Placentia Yorba Linda School District Elementary Strings and Band. He is also a private trombone instructor and the low brass coach at Katella and Tesoro High School. His principle instrument is the trombone of which he performs classical, jazz, and commercial repertoire. He will be teaching band and strings and he is excited to begin his second year at the Capistrano Unified School District.

Mr. Jeff Long

4th Grade STRINGS & 5th Grade INTERMEDIATE STRINGS jmlong@capousd.org

Mr. Jeff Long is an Orange County native, happily residing in Dana Point. Mr. Long graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Trombone Performance, he received his teaching credential from CSU Fullerton, and he recently obtained his Masters of Music in Music Education from the American Band College.  Mr. Long has been a Capistrano Unified music teacher for nine years, teaching both elementary block music and middle school band and orchestra during that time. In his spare time, he enjoys playing trombone, catching up on reading, and spending time with his family.

Shawna Ellis

4th Grade GENERAL MUSIC & 5th Grade CHOIR smellis@capousd.org

Mrs. Shawna Ellis grew up in Orange County and earned her B.A. in Music as well as her teaching credential from Cal State University, Fullerton. She began teaching at El Rancho Junior High School in Anaheim Hills in 1983 and eventually joined the music staff at Capistrano Unified at Niguel Hills Middle School.  After taking time off to start a family, she came back to Capo Unified, this time as an elementary music specialist in 4th and 5th grade.  She has taught in many of the Mission Viejo, Santa Margarita and Ladera Ranch Elementary Schools. Mrs. Ellis is married to Greg  Ellis – a music teacher in Santa Ana.  Her daughter, Ruth, is an English teacher and her oldest son, Scott is in the Air Force.  Her “baby boy” Chris is a bass player and plays at various venues in Southern California and works with middle and high school students at Mount of Olives Church in Mission Viejo.                                                                      8/28/19 8:21 PM
